When an atheist says "I lack belief in God", then it is only natural for a believer to ask the atheist questions pertaining to what, then, the atheist believes to explain reality and the world. When someone tells you what they "do not believe" only leads you to ask them "then, what is it that you believe?" and there's nothing controversial in that.
However, the main problem is that the atheist then doesn't provide anything. You don't take a position whatsoever, while maintaining that anyone that has a position is "wrong". So, you don't believe anything, or rather you believe only that everyone is wrong.
And that's disingenuous and boring. One would also wonder, then, if you truly believe there's no knowledge to be gathered about these questions - what explains reality and the world; where do we come from and so on; - then what are you doing in the discussion in the first place... is it to tell everyone else that they are wrong?
But we already know that you believe everyone is wrong. There's no need for you to argue about these conclusions. We know that each atheist, PERSONALLY, "lacks a belief" in any metaphysics. So, there's no need to convince us in that, but also there's no need for you to participate anywhere, because you have no stance on the matter anyway.
That's like trying to participate in a contest about "The Best Book", while maintaining that "there's no best book", or rather you "lack belief that there's a best book". Well, then, what you're doing in the contest to begin with? And, by extension, why are you participating in discussions about what explains the world and reality, when you believe the matter to be unknown to begin with?
Is it to remind everyone else that they are wrong?
